Capricious Accordion is an artistic blend of the intricacies of the accordion that exercises technical depth in performance on traditional acoustic accordion, and embraces modern digital technology with creative imagination to produce unique arrangements high in entertainment value and appealing to diverse audiences. With his innovative approach and artistry in playing accordion, Joe Domitrowich has succeeded in producing an ever-expanding and intriguing variety of arrangements. Whether playing a classical full orchestral arrangement of a Strauss Waltz reminiscent of Andre Previn, or the highly syncopated 1960s Latin-jazz Oye Como Va of Tito Puente performed by Santana – not to mention numerous traditional pieces such as a romantic Italian love song, an emotion-evoking Hungarian or Russian gypsy piece, a fast-moving French musette, a Cajun or country standard, a lively Slovenian polka, a familiar evergreen ballroom (foxtrot, swing) or Latin dance standard (tangos, cha-chas, rumbas, sambas, etc.), or the big band In the Mood from the 1940s, and more – Joe's music is both technically challenging and highly entertaining. A favorite of audiences is the novelty arrangement, Train Ride, an accordion-embellished collage of well-known train songs complete with vocals and with blue grass fiddle and banjo competing to take instrumental lead and realistic sound effects.
Audiences are delighted with the full rich, vibrant and big sound that Joe artistically evokes from his accordion. His arrangements combine the timbre of the reeds and expression of the bellows in the traditional accordion uniquely embellished - as only the accordion can be - with the latest in digital technology. His versatile solo work often emulates the performance of an entire band or orchestra and sounds just as you recall hearing it by the original artist. And, even his solo performances are complete with live vocal harmonies. Joe's music is performed 100% live as all music should be. That's right, it's real! — every note of every selection is performed live; while many find it hard to believe, there are absolutely no pre-recorded or sequenced tracks to Joe's performances.
Capricious Accordion has performed at the International Accordion Convention in Las Vegas and can be heard regularly at Lugano Swiss Bistro in Carmel, CA. Joe will appear at the 2008 Cotati Accordion Festival in California.
